Your translation is nearer to the German one insofar that you have the “better” in the English sentence.
However, note the capital "Sie " in the German sentence: It is quite polite.
I am not sure whether your translation conveys that.
Btw, the German adverb “lieber” needs various translations depending on context:
Compare:
“Ich hätte lieber einen Tee aus China” =" I would prefer a tea from China"
“Urlaub mit deiner Mutter?! Da erschiess’ ich mich lieber” =
" Holidays with your mother!? I’d rather shoot myself"
