Is this common in Italian for the condition of something to be in the plural?

Is this common in Italian for the condition of something to be in the plural?
My TT gives me the same translation but I would give the English translation as “in fairly good condition”. I notice quite often the plural is used, as in “notizie”. (TT - trusty translator)
