Interesting note on this construction on Lucrezia’s podcast this week: As far as she is aware “contare” is the only verb that uses “verb + su + di,” and this only with personal pronouns.
So: you would say “Puoi contare sul direttore” but “Puoi contare su di me, di te, di lui, etc…”
