Prima di morire vedete il ring!

English Original

Before you die you see the ring!

The translation doesn’t make much sense.

It’s from a horror film I think (I haven’t seen it!)

I thought so, too, but then IMO it should be properly capitalized, in English as well as in Italian.

Or maybe it’s a Wagnerian reference?

Oh cielo no, not the Ring Cycle! Perhaps it means “before you die you really must see The Ring!” otherwise l’anello would have cut the mustard;-D

I frankly think this is a case of Whatever you write, it will be translated. People translate just about anything without even reflecting on what it is they're translating, or if it makes sense at all. - English example sentence - Tatoeba

[details=“English Translation”]Before you die you see the ring![/details] Agreed. I worry that Tatoeba is overly crowd-sourced without enough oversight. It means that any translation acquired from there is just someone’s opinion.
