“Devil take the hindmost” is a highly free translation for the Italian, which more precisely might be translated “Everyone looks after themselves.” Admittedly, the meaning of “Devil take the hindmost” is a reference to utter selfishness, but one feels this translation is in degree freer than translating “It is all greek to me” into “Questo per me è arabo.”

Hi Bill. My trusty translator also gives me “Everyone looks after themselves” so that’s fine with me.
