Ciao @morbrorper Sì sì, one of the “falsiest friends” around. Imagine the “strafalcione” you’d make at Gino’s if you told the manager his food was “tremendo”. :frowning:

In this case I think English men have changed the meaning because the original word in Latin “tremendus” has the same meaning of “tremendo” and the opposite meaning of “tremendous”

Easy to explain and to remember:
The obvious root is “tremere/tremare” and yes, very bad and very good things can make you … tremble.
In German it is similar with “schauerlich” /“erschau(d)ern”
If food is “schauerlich” it is terribly bad, but you might “erschauern vor Glück” , i.e. “tremble because of happiness”.
