My suggestion about the new interface

Hello, my suggestion is to give us the option to select between old and new app design. As I like the older one more, I hope that it would be great the user is able to choose the design he likes more and feel comfortable. Because is crucial to feel comfortable while learning. If it is possible of course…

Very much agree if it meant I could use Landscape Text mode, as just a week ago. Parts of the new look are OK but ease of use has been lost. Will persevere.

Yes, I really, really dislike the new interface (for usability reasons, not aesthetics). For example, why is percent mastered hidden until answered?? I switched to the browser for reviews, even on mobile, so that I can see percent mastered (I really insist on reviewing ONLY to-be-mastered words and reviewing already mastered words when I want to or have the time, since I have thousands and thousands of words to review), but it involves a lot of extra tapping and I get so many audio error messages when there are no apparent errors at all. (“Oh no! There was an error with the audio. [object Event] undefined” * ~20/event) Audio errors do persist on the app. I also wish the ‘submit’ and ‘next’ buttons were in the same place. I got used to double-tapping the same spot. (Edit: I see now that ‘Next’ is supposed to land in the same spot as where the return key is, so it could be a double-tap. I just happen to avoid the return key because it’s surrounded by the backspace and microphone keys and I hit it so often when I don’t want to.)

Thanks for all the feedback!

What in particular?

We’re getting this added back, as a game setting that can be turned on for now.

Interesting point - thanks!

What do you do if a not to-be-mastered word comes up?

For what language pairing / collections are you getting the audio errors? What are the errors - an error message, the audio simply no playing, or something else?

I sort my reviews from least mastered and run through them all till I hit 100% mastered. If I run out of words I’m learning before a multiple of 5, then I’ll do reviews till I hit a multiple of five because I’m like that lol :joy:. I might come back later in the day and review mastered words, but I do want to finish collections eventually, meaning I don’t want to “waste” learning (as opposed to reviewing) time. My big wish would be to be able to split reviews into a <100% mastered queue and a 100% mastered queue because I want to know whether I have the capacity to add new words on a given day…I get that it might be impractical to implement; it’s just felt that hiding percent mastered before answering moved even further from that possibility.

It’s hard to be specific, but I think I know some triggers. A new one, as of the update before the overhaul, is if I click a word to get the WIktionary pop-up and I’m in the pop-up for too long OR if I’m in the edit cloze modal for too long, when I return to the main review interface, the audio stops playing. Doesn’t seem matter the language or audio source. Maybe the time in the other window doesn’t matter either, but it seems to depend on that.

There’s usually an issue when I go from, say, the Polish FFT, where I use the nice Clozemaster audio, to Czech FFT, where I use a premium iOS voice. I usually have to restart the app to get the iOS voice to play. It sometimes goes the other way (iOS → CM audio) but mostly CM audio → iOS.

Audio can stop playing for no reason at all, too. Sometimes I’ll wait and eventually I’ll get an error message (something like, “Oh no! There was an error playing the audio”) or the audio will finally play, but that more often than not doesn’t happen. I think this is most often with CM audio, but I’m not positive.

The previous one, when the buttons were as usual. I like all the buttons as they were. At least, give us the option to choose them.

PS the non-sentence text is very small now. The grey background is cool, though! If there is a chance to customize sentence, pronunciation, and note text size like on the web app, that would be welcome.

Btw, if displaying percent mastered before answering mucks up the new aesthetic direction of the app, the text or background of the cloze sentences could always optionally be color-coded. Maybe?

Reading the posts about the new app interface, I’m really glad I’m sticking to the web interface, even on my phone. I frankly cannot see any benefit to using the (Android) app, except for the Hands-free mode or some other mode I’m not personally using, and the offline mode.

For me, the ability to read and make sentence comments, and to create new clozes from existing ones, are the main factors that keep me using the web interface. The only app feature that I care about, not available in the web interface, is the ability to set a specific date for the next review.
