I was supposed to take Tom to dinner.
It is a necessity sentence without conditionals so ‘supposedly’ does not belong here. I would prefer a translation such as ‘I had to take Tom to dinner’.
“to be supposed to” is an expression of necessity, not a conditional. It is less pressing than “have to”, so I think it fits the finnish version, which uses pitää instead of täytyy or pakko, for example.
