Is there a difference in usage between “mandare” and “inviare”? Or are they interchangeable?

Hi. I tend to think of *mandare for handing over something to someone although I’m pretty sure they mean the same, and I use *inviare to send by mail etc. It’s just my way of remembering but a madrelingua may have more info.
