English Translation
My friend sent me a letter in which he asked me if I’m well.
“ob es mir gut gehe” - is that Konjunktiv I? I would have expected “ob es mir gut geht”. Could you use Indikativ here instead of Konjunktiv I?

Yes, in indirect speech it is correct to use the Konjunktiv.
However, even for native speakers it is a common mistake to use the Indikative.
Same as in English. People tend to say “I wish I was rich” (indicative) instead of “I wish I were rich” (subjunctive). I guess it’s a pretty minor mistake.
