I think a better English translation for this sentence would be “Lydia is fond of him beyond measure.”
The german sentence is past tense, so “was” is a good fit. Turning it to present tense “is” moves away from that match.

Thank you for catching that. That was an oversight on my behalf. That should have been: “Lydia was fond of him beyond measure not “is”.” I think the original translation of “Lydia was extremely fond of him” though accurate, makes the translation from German to English a bit more difficult than it needs to be. “Über die Maßen” would translate to “beyond measure”, and if that translation is used within the context of the rest of this sentence, in my opinion I feel that it would make it much easier for an English native speaker to decipher.
There’s the problem. There was no mention of “extremely” at all.
What can be seen in your post is basically:
English: Lydia was …
and then your proposal to change it to “Lydia is …”, all else being equal.
And I can just comment on what you present in the post.
Oh, I think I see what happened here. Before my original post, I already modified the original translation from “Lydia was extremely fond of him” to “Lydia was fond of him beyond measure”. I am curious though, as I though that in Clozemaster when you change the translation it only does it for your own review not for everyone else’s? Or is the change visible because I posted in my own review section?
