My (very cautious) opinion is that both are right here but “quel che” can be said faster.

Ciao a tutti. One of our Italian club’s madrelingua (Emanuela) has given me the following:
Pronome: ‘quello’ può essere troncato in ‘quel’ davanti al pronome relativo ‘che’.
Faccio quello che voglio = Faccio quel che voglio.
In certe espressioni è più usato il troncamento: quel che è peggio è … / per quel che ne so io …/quel che conta è…
