Le crépuscule est bientôt.

English Translation

The sunset is soon.

The translatio uses a different word. It slightly alters the meaning of the sentence.

I confirm that a more natural way of saying so would be:
“Le crépuscule est pour bientôt” or even more popularly : “c’est bientôt le crépuscule”.

Does “crepuscule” even mean “sunset” or does it more properly mean “twilight” (i.e., the period after sunset?)

Yes you are right, it does mean twilight (and apparently, additionally, according to larousse, also the daybreak, but I have never heard it be used in that way). The sunset would be “Le coucher du soleil” or, the maybe a bit more litterary, “La tombée de la nuit”
