Läutere meine Nieren und mein Herz.

English Translation

Try out my reins and my heart.

The English translation is wrong… Purify my kidneys and my heart!

This strange sentence is from a bible psalm (26,2).
The English translation is the same part of the psalm in the King James Bible.

English Translation

Try out my reins and my heart.

I know it’s from the Bible… my point is that the translation into English is inaccurate.

That’s the old debate about literal or functional translations.
If you correctly translate “dead as a dodo” with “mausetot” it doesn’t mean that a dodo is a mouse.

I don’t know, whether any English native would still recognize your translation as coming from the bible.

Anyway, I agree with you that these things can sometimes be misleading and it sure is in this example.

Btw, is there anybody in the forum, who knows what’s exactly written in the original text?
