Latest iOS app update: –∞ stars. Why, cruel world? Just why?

Is there any way we could possibly just… um… undo the most recent iOS app updates, and downgrade back to the immediately preceding version?

The update is a MESS. Literally nothing about it is an improvement in any way, and there are LOTS of just god-awful new “features” that are so bad that it feels like “old” Clozemaster has actually been vandalized.

Just a few of the lowlights follow. There are many more.

.

Most fundamentally, the new visual interface is a complete flaming heap of garbage.

Of the breathtakingly long llist of terrible new “features” of the update, this is the absolute worst of all: Text inputs no longer go INTO THE SENTENCE! :scream::cold_sweat::cry:
Inputted text used to actually, y’know, fill in the blank—which, mercifully, it still does on the web version (which i’ll be using unless we get the chance to un-update). But now, on iOS, the big fat attention-attracting empty box in the middle of the sentence STAYS EMPTY, and your inputted text populates a space way down BELOW the sentence, near the Submit button.

Why??? Why would anybody ever think it was a good idea to stop actually filling the blanks on a fill-in-the-blank app???
Obviously, the entire pedagogical value of “fill-in-the-blank” is lost if we’re no longer, ahem, filling in the blank •_______• Gurl wut.

Moreover, on sentences that are longer than average—especially on smaller phones, or with keyboard layouts that take more vertical space—you might even have to scroll back and forth between the fill-in (down below…) and the entirety of the sentence.

.

There used to be a “√” button, which would adjust the sentence to “100% Mastered” (but NOT mark it as “known”, which sets the next review to 99 years in the future).
I use this button ALL. THE. TIME.—whenever a “new” sentence is something I’m alrdy completely comfortable with.
Setting the mastery to 100% WITHOUT the “√” button now takes 5 taps, plus a swipe, plus annoying latency time (you have to press the pen icon, go into the edit menu, manually pull down the % mastery pulldown, pick 100%, then scroll down, tap the screen to make the keyboard go away, and finally hit “Save”.)

please restore the “√” button… thank you
(again mercifully, this button is still on the web)

.

Even the “Enter”/“Submit” button—the big fat green one that you press on every single problem—is like a mean practical joke now… because you now have to press IN THE MIDDLE of this button to actually move on to the next problem after submitting your answer, even though the button itself is bright-ass green and spans the entire left-right width of the device screen (with no internal dividers or anything else to tell you that it’s actually shrunk by almost 2/3rds)
.
If you press anywhere in the left or right 1/3-ish of that button, you see. you WON’T move on. Pressing in the right third of the button offers “mark hard” and “mark easy” options with altered review timelines… ok, decent feature, but it belongs in the Edit menu—NOT secretly occupying the exact part of the “Next” button that right-handed people will automatically press every time unless they’re consciously thinking about the layout.

Pressing the left third of the button, inexplicably, pulls up a static table of how many days’ delay there are for the different %s of mastery—but WITHOUT the ability to adjust this percentage for the problem at hand; I guess it’s just “interesting information”?

I’m… genuinely interested in hearing the rationale behind these design choices. In seriousness—if there are design notes somewhere, can I see them? I want to understand… just… why.

.

• No matter what timezone your streaks and daily reviews (and your body…) are on, the iOS app is hardcoded to UTC time—at which it will dump the next day’s reviews into the review queues and will roll over streaks (including showing “0 days” if you’re in North America—where midnight UTC is between 5 and 8 PM—and just haven’t gotten around to playing that evening yet).
To make matters worse, even though the DISPLAY streaks are UTC-based, the actual progress of the game follows whatever time your phone says it is. So… if you’re in North America and playing in the evening, then…
— if you run through all of the actual current day’s reviews and accidentally start digging into tomorrow’s (which were dumped into your queue too early at midnight UTC), then you suddenly start getting penalized 50% of the points for each one. That’s the “reviewed too early” penalty, but, those sentences shouldn’t even show up in your queue yet. Oh, and, there’s literally no way to tell when you’ve actually finished TODAY’S review set… other than just going on to the next one and being given N/2 points instead of N points.
and,
— your streak will be re-reset back from “0 days” to the correct number of days.

Oh yeah and, ithe green highlights for “languages you’ve already practiced today” all just magically disappear at midnight UTC too—even if you’re in California and it’s only 5 PM for you. For those of us who play LOTS of languages on clozemaster, this is … not fun.

.

.

The app now freezes up completely if you ever try to “Report” a sentence. (It happens right at the point where you hit Submit, so I am not sure whether any of the reports in question are actually being sent.) So far for me with the new app: 11 reports, 11 crashes/freezes.

.

.

.

Could go on (there are plenty more “negative improvements”!), but… yeahhhh i’ll just give the final word to these bois:
( 。 •`ᴖ´• 。)
( •̀ ᴖ •́ )
They’re mad too.
gaaaahhhhh.

.

IN CONCLUSION

Since not one thing about this app has actually been improved, can we please just yank this update, take it out behind the barn, shoot it, and just pretend it never happened?

(Barring that, could we possibly have a toggle between “Try New Clozemaster” and “Restore Old Clozemaster”—like the “Back to Old Reddit” toggle that Reddit mercifully offers so that nobody has to be stuck with Reddit’s own Worst Update Ever™?)

please… I beg of you :pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face::pleading_face:
I entreat you. I implore you. Please… please make it go away.

I’m not sure about iOS, but on android I was able to download an older version from a 3rd party provider to sidestep this update.
