Is “la note” really used instead of “l’addition”?

In restaurants or bars: I’d typically use “l’addition, s.v.p”, although “la note, s.v.p” is OK too and people will understand what you mean from context.
In hotels: If I was paying for my room/stay, I would use “la note, s.v.p”.
