English Translation
The clock says two.
Bad English translation. It should be ‘the time is two o’clock’.
The clock says two.
Bad English translation. It should be ‘the time is two o’clock’.
I don’t know, “the time is two o’clock” sounds clunky to me. Maybe the kind of sentnce used in the introduction of some story (“the time was two o’clock; the place, a dusty old tavern in the middle of nowhere[…]”). I feel I have heard the type of construction “The clock says…”. But, if that’s wrong, maybe a more straightforward translation could be the simpler “It is 2 o’clock”
I don’t feel strongly about exactly how you want to say ‘the time is now two o’clock’ but nobody in their right mind would ‘the clock says…’
