“Mengangkat” doesn’t mean “elect”. It’s closer to “appoint” or “designate”. The doers (= we) are higher ranking personnel if you use “mengangkat” (the root word “angkat” is “to lift”). The Indonesian sentence should be “memilih”, or the English sentence should be “appointed”.
