You have to check the other definitions of the word “air” which means “look” (as in “her looks are old-school”).

It is seldom used in French though. However, the expression “avoir l’air” is often used. (=to seem/to look like)

“She had an air about her, as though she were holding something in” it’s an old fashioned expression in English
