Je suis désolé, mon père est éliminé.

English Translation

I’m sorry, my father is out.

The English translation is a bit odd. ‘Struck out’ or ‘eliminated’ would be better. You don’t say “éliminé” to suggest someone is absent or not here, which is what the English translation implies.

I agree that “I’m sorry, my father has been eliminated” is a more likely translation, so I added it at Tatoeba. But I suppose one could come up with an example (albeit rather unlikely) where it matches the “out” version:

“Your father is still in the tournament, right? Please tell him I’m cheering for him.” “I’m sorry, my father is out.”
