I intended to go straight home, but my footsteps led me, somehow, to the library.
Out of curiosity, are there are any parts of the francophone world that would refer to a library as « une librairie » as opposed to « une bibliothèque », or should this English translation read “… to the bookstore/bookshop.”?
The distinction between the two French terms is actually a modern development. Historically, ‘librairie’ was also used to mean ‘bibliothèque’, as in the phrase ‘la librairie du roi de France’.
