Io so di non sapere nulla.

English Translation

I know that I know nothing.

Why is this not “Io so che non so nulla”, like what is “di” doing here?

The use of an infinitive clause is simply common when the subject of the clause following ‘che’ is the same as the subject for the verb ‘sapere’.

  • Io so di aver fatto un errore.
  • Sanno di dover partire domani.
