I’d say that both are possible, depending on the context.
“Let’s play a prank on Tom. Pretend you don’t know me and let’s make it look like we kiss passionately without knowing each other”. Here pretend could be “feindre” (although it’s a bit literary or formal, “faire semblent” would be more common).
“Pretend you don’t know me for a minute, do you think me crossing the English channel alone would be a good idea”. Here pretend should be “imaginer”.
