Ils puent.

The “ent” ending for the word “puent” should be silent, but with both female and male voices the ending is pronounced.

It should be pronounced the same as the third person singular as in “il pue”, or as in “pu” (past participle of pouvoir).

Instead it is pronounced by both male and female voices like the french words “cent”, “dent”, or “effluent”, so that the following sentence would rhyme (when it shouldn’t):-
“Ils aiment nager dans l’effluent, et donc, malheureusement, ils puent”.
