Is “mi sta uccidendo” an idiom in Italian or just a literal translation?

I wondered that too. According to WordReference uccidere can have the same figurative meaning. The example given is;

I’ve got to take these shoes off. My feet are killing me.

Devo togliermi queste scarpe, mi stanno uccidendo i piedi!
