That is a dubious translation, in my opinion.

I agree.
I see that it is a translation-of-a-translation over at Tatoeba, rather than being a direct translation. The linking sentence is Japanese, so I have no idea whether that Japanese sentence is open to wide interpretation.
Having said that, I find that even when just looking at direct translations, I would describe many of the “interpretations” in French from English as being dubious.
