Il est dans la lune.

Italian Translation

Lui è distratto.

Why is it “dans” la lune instead of “sur” la lune?

Hi @Konsa,

The French sentence is not to be taken in a literal sense here.

It’s an expression we use to describe someone who is distracted/lost in thoughts.

If you wanted to talk about Neil Armstrong walking on the moon, you would use “sur”:

Neil Armstrong posa le pied sur la lune en 1969.
