I’ll take the chance.

This was quite counterintuitive, I’d understood wahrnehmnen to mean ‘perceive’, but the root I guess is ‘taking (as) true’, and I suppose the idea here is the Chance is ‘taken as true’, i.e. you place trust in it as a genuine chance.

I think the translator fell victim to a false friend.

The English sentence translates to “das Risiko eingehen”.

The German sentence translates to “to seize the opportunity”.
