Ich weiß, dass er mich überwacht.

Does this mean “watching” as if, a person is just out and about doing their thing and a person is stalking in the shadows, observing them? I have usually heard “überwacht” used in a more professional setting, and I more often see it translated “monitor”, “supervise”, or “oversee”. I wonder if there is perhaps a better translation for this than “I know he is watching me.”, or if this is a perfectly natural translation. I’m not a native speaker so I don’t have a great grasp of this word’s connotation and range of uses.

In this case, surveilling feels like the most appropriate translation to me, in order to understand the meaning. It certainly sounds like the description of a stalker or a very unpleasant acquaintance/colleague, so ‘supervise, oversee, monitor’ just don’t work here.
I know he is watching me can have the same meaning but it’s not inherently creepy, or is it?

In this case it could be stalking, but i’m not sure about this, because i might be wrong about the usage of stalking in english.
But in general i would expect this sentence in a thriller or some kind of criminal story, not in real life.

I think “I know he is watching me.” sounds fairly creepy in English too. Like when I hear that my first interpretation is a creepy one, like a stalker.
