English Translation
I want to go home.
The solution says “I want to go home”, but möchte means would like to.
I want to go home.
The solution says “I want to go home”, but möchte means would like to.
The intensity levels don’t quite match 1:1 between german and english.
“I want” is less severe than “Ich will”, which is probably why the translator chose “Ich möchte”.
“I would like to” is more like “Ich würde gerne”, and “Ich möchte” is somewhere in between.
That being said, “Ich will nach Hause” would have been an ok translation as well, because I feel that in connection with “nach Hause”, it’s unusual to use “möchte”. At the end of the day it all depends on the situation and context, of course.
