That’s because on tatoeba both the german and the italian sentences are translations for the english sentence “I read the arcticle.” where you can’t tell whether it’s past or present. There are multiple translations for present and past in german and italian.
Of course, these kinds of errors happen if the software just arbitrarily picks one translation from each language and matches them.
That’s why there should be a human proofreading these. Or users flag them, and they get fixed.
