I was wondering why it is not in “der” Zukunft?

Because then it means “In the future, I will have faith (in something not mentioned)”.
But it would still sound weird, because if you really mean that, you would put it differently, e.g. “In der Zukunft werde ich Vertrauen haben.”, or just “In Zukunft …”
But in general, often the dative is where the action happens, and the accusative is the object of the action or the destination of movement.
