Ich habe nur ein paar Fragen.

English Translation

I only have a couple of questions.

I have been confused about this for awhile now. Is “ein paar” capitalized? In some examples it is and in others it is not. Even on different langauge learning apps. Is it ein Paar or ein paar. I assume it should be capitalized because it is a noun.

Yes, this one is difficult, and even the germans aren’t always sure which one to use.

The rule of thumb is this:

  • If it is literally a pair, i.e. two, for example when talking about shoes, then it’s capitalized:
    Ein Paar Schuhe.

  • If it really means “a couple of” or “a few”, i.e. some small amount, but not necessarily exactly two, then it’s lower case:
Ich habe nur ein paar Fragen.
