doesn’t both Jetzt and Gleich indicate the immediacy of the verb “going”? why use both?
“Jetzt gleich” can be used to add emphasis. See also this explanation on another sentence: Machen Sie es gleich fertig!

Exactly. Similar to how “right” in “right now” adds emphasis.
“gleich” without “jetzt” could mean “soon” or “in a few minutes”.
“jetzt gleich” is akin to “sofort” (“immediately”).
When I still watched TV: After 10 minutes of advertisements, they say “gleich” comes the next episode of your favorite TV show, and then they proceed with 5 more minutes of advertisements. “Gleich” doesn’t mean “immediately”. For the same reason: If your wife or mothers asks you to take out the trash, never answer with “Ja, gleich.” or she will get furious.
