Ich bin keiner von ihnen.

English Translation

I don’t belong to them.

“I’m not one of them” would be a less misleading translation to work from. People also resent being assumed to be possessions of others, which is how I read it.

It can work in both languages, but this clozemaster example is not very good.

“I belong to this tour group” = “Ich gehöre zu dieser Reisegruppe”

Here we’re using “belong”/“gehören” not to describe someone as property, but rather to describe membership or association. In German, this is expressed in the difference between “gehören” and “gehören zu”, which is an important distinction:

sie gehört mir = she belongs to me

sie gehört zu mir = she’s with me

The first would be very rude and possibly criminal, the second is perfectly okay.
