As in the title - since I cannot do it myself, how can it be done? I tried asking admins, with no result. Flagging my own posts doesn’t bring any results either.
My two reasons for wanting to do that are:
In some of my early posts in “sentences discussions”, because I was at an early stage of studying the language, I made some tiny mistakes, which I cannot edit, so I’d rather remove the post and write a new one, free of them.
There’s a user who keeps spamming the forum with factually incorrect, AI generated “explanations” and doesn’t react at all to any comments trying to correct them - this has been thoroughly discussed in a topic I created earlier this year and I had to accept that the official policy of the forum is to do absolutely nothing about that. Since then I stopped posting my own, research-based explanations, as I was worried that sooner or later they will disappear among the growing amount of AI generated bullshit. As it turns out, I was right, because the said user started adding their “explanations” under my earlier posts. Of course their “explanations” are, as usual, utterly wrong - one of the recent ones even managed to contradict itself within one paragraph. But what’s even worse, they sometimes create an impression of my own explanations being incorrect. This creates a very confusing situation for whomever is going to read these “sentences discussions” and I wish not to be part of it, that’s why I would like to have the option of removing my own posts.
I’d be very grateful for some advice and help here!
You say that you asked the admins (presumably including @mike), with no result. What method did you use to contact them? Did you fail to receive a response, or did you receive a negative one?
I don’t think you should remove your posts. If you are receiving responses that are incorrect – whether they’re produced by AI or not – you can choose not to answer, or you can reply with concise replies that explain where you think they’re wrong and refer to sources (if you want), then leave it at that. If your arguments are sound, it seems unlikely to me that someone else can twist them into making your assertions seem less convincing. If you remove your posts, you’ll only leave behind the distortions of your statements that the other user has made.
Regarding your own posts, you can always add replies that correct your earlier errors.
In my experience, the trash bin only works for fairly recent posts, and only if there are no replies.
I’ve tried to use the moderation facility (the flag) a few times, mostly on my own posts, but also on really old posts complaining of bad translations that have subsequently been fixed; I’ve never had any response whatsoever.
That’s exactly my experience… That’s also why I gave up on reporting typos, mistakes and incorrect translations - some of them I reported years ago and they’re still there.
