Hon blir sen till maten.

English Translation

She will be late for dinner.

Is dinner not “middag”? Is this not just “she will be late for the food”?

Dinner is “middag”. “Maten” could here be replaced with “middagsmaten”.

The English translation given was “she will be late for dinner” - that is what was throwing me off as I would have used middag. Ambiguity is tricky when you are trying to learn :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

“middagen” (an official dinner); “middan” (the evening meal).
