Why is “Bestimmtes” capitalized here? My understanding was that in this construction “etwas” was a pronoun and thus “bestimmtes” would be an adjective. But perhaps I am wrong and here “etwas” is an adjective and “Bestimmtes” is a noun? If this is different from in English I would appreciate some clarification as it’s confusing me! Thanks!!!

It would be bestimmtes if there was another subject in the sentence that it would refer to, but here it is the only thing to work as subject. Etwas is a pronoun, it can’t be a subject (or nominalised).
