Han är en man som man kan räkna med.

English Translation

He is a man to be reckoned with.

The English sentence “He is a man to be reckoned with” means you have to reckon with him, in the sense you cannot ignore him. It does (in my opinion) not mean you can reckon with him, in the sense you can rely on him.

Shouldn’t the Swedish text therefore be something like “Han är en man som man måste räkna med”?

The Swedish and English sentences currently have two different meanings in my opinion.

I don’t know swedish, but I suspect - if the swedish means the same as the german “Er ist ein Mann mit dem man rechnen kann” - it can be translated to english as “He is a man you can count on”.
And both Google Translate and DeepL seem to agree.
