The translation is “does he have a girlfriend,” but isn’t “fidanzata” only a fiancé?

Funnily enough, we had this exact discussion in our Italian forum just the other day.
According to one of the madrelingua in the forum, the word fidanzato/a pretty much died out after the 60’s, but has now resurfaced and is indeed used in much the same way we use fiancé/fiancée, that is, after a formal marriage proposal.
For boyfriend/girlfriend in the more informal sense, yes they use ragazzo/a but also compagno/a and partner.
Regionally, there is also the informal term moroso/a.
