Gurun pasir Tiongkok memuat lebih banyak orang ketimbang Jepang.

English Translation

China’s desert supports more people than are in Japan.

This is an indirect mistranslation from Japanese to Indonesian and linked to English. The Indonesian author misunderstood the meaning of 養う in Japanese.

“Memuat” in Indonesian means “to contain/hold/accommodate”. So, the Indonesian sentence means “there are more people living in a desert in China than in Japan”.

But the English sentence with the term “support” means that “a desert provides the Chinese industry financial means and earnings more than to the Japanese industry”. The English sentence doesn’t say that how many people are living in a desert. Maybe China merely installed many solar panels in a desert to generate renewable energy.
