I know that “addebitare” can mean to blame, but can it be used in the legal sense of charging someone with a crime? I don’t see it used that way anywhere.

Hi. I was tempted to change it to “accusare” but being charged is different to being accused. Will ask our club madrelingua for advice. BTW, my TT gives addebitato.
Edit: Our madrelingua says: Sì, la frase è corretta, anche se con addebitare il passivo si forma con l’ausiliare venire più spesso che con essere
