Without further context trip in German exclusively refers to (chemical) intoxication… though, with the growing influence of English, it is also used to refer to trips as in English.
To make this little excurse more confusing I will add this: in colloquial speech, auf dem Trip sein also means being ‘intoxicated’ by a (weird or potentially harmful) idea as in Er ist voll auf dem Trip dass sich jeder an seinem Geburtstag als Einhorn verkleiden muss.
