È questa la ragione per cui non sei voluta venire con me?

English Translation

Is this the reason you didn’t want to come with me?

According to Wiktionary, the auxiliary for volere is avere, so this was surprising. I take it it’s because of venire.

My Harrap verb book says: in compound tenses as an auxiliary, “volere” takes the same aux as the following verb, eg I wanted to go - sono voluto/a andare…

So you were spot-on @morbrorper.

Thanks for the quick confirmation! That follows the pattern of potere and maybe some other similar verb.

Indeed. I thought I was past surprises with Italian. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Floria is right, verbs like “volere”, “potere”, “dovere” when used in conjunction with another verb, should use the auxiliary of that verb.

I actually didn’t even knew/remember the rule, and in practice, both “non sei voluta venire” and “non hai voluto venire” are in common use.
