I need you to do me a favor.
“You have to do me a favor.” Is it not a proper translation?
It is a proper translation, and the meaning is the same. To me, there’s a difference in politeness:
“I need” vs “You have to”.
- “I need you to do” sounds to me more like a request that can be declined.
- “You have to” sounds to me more like a command.
Some people don’t like to be told what they have to do. If I don’t want to do it for you, then it’s not my problem what you need. But if I have to, then you’ve made it my problem, which can be rude.
The original sentence does sound like a command, though not grammatically speaking.
