You need to get to school slowly!
I’m a little confused about why this would ever be said? Is there a connotation of carefulness? Or is it an instruction to not rush?

Maybe it snowed last night and the sidewalks are covered in ice, so you should walk slowly and carefully? I don’t know… many of these sentences lack any kind of context.

No, just the opposite.
The “langsam” in this and similar sentences means, that something is slowly getting urgent.
So a better translation would be
“Now you really have to go to school.”

In that case, I’d say Clozemaster’s suggested English translation here is terrible. It seems like someone just put the German sentence through Google Translate.

Yes, the translation is poor.
As MRgK said, “langsam” has that “approaching the deadline” meaning here.
Personally, I would have given
It’s about time you went to school
as a translation.
In fact, if you look at tatoeba, the english translation is just that.
Also interestingly, there is a second german translation:
Es ist allmählich Zeit, dass du zur Schule gehst.
With “allmählich” meaning “gradually”, it basically says the same thing.
Who knows why clozemaster has that weird english sentence, because on tatoeba it is nowhere to be found, not in the sentence history, nor in the overall search.
