I think on average, “lila” evokes a lighter shade of color than “purple” does in English. I also have seen it translated “lavender”, which I think is a closer match. In a sentence like this where a comparison is being made between two similar colors, I think it would be important to make these distinctions. A better translation for “purple” is “purpur” or also perhaps “violet”; these both tend to describe darker shades.
