" entgegen nehmen" (very formal) = accept, receive, take
The whole expression is quite oid fashioned.
In everday’s speech:
“Wenn du willst, gehe ich ran.”
A better example for “entgegen nehmen” :
“Aus gesundheitlichen Gründen kann er den Nobelpreis nicht persönlich entgegen nehmen.”
For health reasons he cannot receive the Nobel prize in person.
