“Political” parties I guess in theory, though the sentence indeed seems to suggest the more festive/celebratory type. Anyway the thing remains that “i parties” would be the plural for “il party” and “i partiti” for “il partito” 
Whichever the intended meaning is.

Many years ago in our Italian club, un uomo si chiama Luca taught us the difference between Feste and Partiti. I’ve never forgotten it, so thanks for the memory @barcarolle , Luca was a real pal.
