Я не знаю всего, никогда не знал всего и никогда не узнаю всего (word lacking accent mark)

English Translation

I don’t know everything, I never knew everything, and I’ll never know everything.

I don’t know everything, I never knew everything, and I’ll never know everything.I don’t know everything, I never knew everything, and I’ll never know everything.

Pronunciation:узнаю → узна́юThis seems to be another case where the automatic pronunciation tool had no understanding of grammar and thus couldn’t decide between узна́ю (perfective, which is correct in this sentence) and узнаю́ (imperfective), so it left the accent mark out. It ought to be possible programmatically (or with AI) to find all words that lack an accent mark, and then to fix them manually by taking the proper variant from Wiktionary. The manual step requires knowledge of Russian, but not it doesn’t have to be native level (as demonstrated by the fact that I’m not a native Russian speaker).By contrast, finding and fixing words that were given the wrong accent by the automatic pronunciation tool would be a much harder task – except, of course, where someone like me has already reported them.

@mike, I’m calling this to your attention since I suspect you don’t read the Russian forum very often.

There are 17 sentences across the Russian wordbase that have the word узнаю as the cloze. Of these, 12 have no accent mark (although other words in the sentences do), 3 are correct, and 2 have an accent mark in the wrong place.

Looking at the sentences in terms of collections, most of the sentences are from the “3,000 Most Common” collection, with a handful in others and four sentences listed as “Not found in any collections!” I’m not sure how it’s possible for a search to find sentences that are not listed as being found in any collections.

In the past, you’ve suggested to me that even when sentences get fixed, the corrections don’t make it into the sentences I’ve already played (or maybe the sentences I’ve already played and edited). However, this can’t explain what’s going on in the “3,000 Most Common” sentences collection (where 10 of the sentences with узнаю as the cloze appear) because I’ve only ever played 21 sentences in that collection, none of which have that as the cloze.

UPDATE: I discussed this at more length here.
